A startup in California is producing to-go coffee cups that are embedded with seeds so that one can safely plant the cup and a tree will grow from it. The company is called Reduce. Reuse. Grow. Everyday Americans consume 400 million cups of coffee and many of those cups are disposable. These seed embedded cups are biodegradable (within 180 days) and will grow at least one tree from every cup. All the consumer has to do is unravel the used cup and submerge it into water for 5 minutes. After that, plant it anywhere and wait for a tree to come that can live for up to 40 years! Just one tree can extract 1 ton of CO2 from the environment during that time. For those who aren't interested in planting the cup, there will be special garbage cans where the cups may be discarded and employees of the company will plant the cups themselves. There have already been 140,000 cups that have been planted in California and as the company expands they will include seeds in their cups that are local to your area (they are only available in California so far). This product could lead into all sorts of biodegradable products that can be planted in order to grow vegetation of all kinds and reduce the amount of waste human beings create. It's so important as the issues of deforestation and waste creation continue to plague our lovely planet and products like these be a great substitution for current products such as styrofoam, which takes more than 500 years to decompose. Come on coffee drinkers, lets make this world a better place and keep consuming great coffee all at the same time!
